I’ve been fighting lately, fighting mentally. Some might refer to it as struggling but I prefer to say I’m fighting. I think at some point we all struggle, but what makes us stronger is when we decide to fight back. This time of year can be hard. Winter is hard enough as it is. The lack of sunlight and the cold keeping us inside. We are in Minnesota so everything but Walmart is closed. I’ve been feeling overwhelmed. The weight of the world is on my shoulders. Now, how do I get it off? Keep reading to see my favorite ideas to help you feel less overwhelmed.
When the weight of the world is on your shoulders… do squats.
Working out is one of favorite ways to relive stress and anxiety. When you work out, endorphins are released into your brain. Being physically active releases things like dopamine and serotonin. These chemicals help regulate your mood. After a good work out, you will feel less stressed, happier and like a huge weight has been lifted.

When the feeling of being overwhelmed starts to take over, its time to start fighting back. Fight against the negative thoughts. When a negative thought enters your head, fight back by thinking of something positive. When you feel like you have more things to do than time, fight back by working on those things. Little by little. Feeling overwhelmed is heavy but it is possible to fight back.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, its a good idea to take a minute to just breathe. Sit in a quiet area and take a few deep breathes. In through the nose and out through the mouth. If you can, I suggest you take a moment to try some meditation. Meditation can help you feel centered and in control.

I know you have a lot on your plate right now. But you can’t do everything all at once. Write a list of all the things you need to do. Then rewrite that list in order of priority. Start by tackling the big important stuff first and work your way down the list.
One foot in front of the other, one bite at a time.
Making a list can make your more productive. You’re more likely to get more done if you have it all written out in front of you. If you’re just scrambling about, trying to multitask, you’ll feel more anxiety. Just take it one step at a time. Finish one task before you start a new one.
Don’t be so hard on yourself
As always, remember to give yourself grace. You are doing a great job. Don’t beat yourself up. Life is like you’re juggling balls. Some are glass and some are plastic. The glass balls are the important stuff, the plastic ones are not as important. You see, if you drop a glass ball, it shatters. You drop a plastic one, it’ll bounce back and be ok. So keep and eye on your glass balls and don’t fret if you drop a plastic one sometimes. Shit happens. We are all far from perfect. You got this.
I hope these tips are able to help you when you are feeling overwhelmed.
