When you are busy working, trying to be super mom, holidays coming up life can seem really hard. But not to fear, my dear! I have put together 9 life hacks for busy moms. I hope these make your busy life easier.

Use a Planner

I can not even begin to tell you how lost I would be with out my planner. Using a planner is my number one life hack for busy moms. My entire life is in one book. I’ve never been good at remembering things so my planner is my life saver.

My favorite planners are the Tools4Wisdom. Its full of pages for you to write down your goals, dreams and all that zen stuff. Follow the link below for more details on this awesome planner.

If you are new to using a planner read THIS post here. Its got great tips for helping you start a planner.

Write everything down

This one kind of ties into using a planner. But you don’t have to have a planner to write everything down. Seriously, I mean everything. This is the best way to stay on top of everything going on.

Normally I have at least three to five different lists going at once. Here’s a few examples:

  • Stuff to take care of around the house
  • Groceries
  • Kids needs (appointments, haircuts, new shoes, etc)

I try to always have sticky notes close by where ever I am. I have some in my purse and just about every room in the house. Its a great way to remind yourself of the little things that we often push to the side until they become big things. It’s a lot easier to take care of little things before they get big.

Give your children chores

Yup. I’m that type of mom. I make my kids clean. It might be much of a life hack, but I’ve always believed chores are a great learning tool. It teaches children to be accountable, clean up after themselves and it teaches them work ethic. Also, it lightens the load for the parents.

And be sure to reward them for helping. I don’t have a consistent chore reward program ( I probably should) but I do try to reward them. Especially when they do their chores with out me having to tell them 15 times! Your rewards do not have to be big or fancy either. I like to give my older kiddos a few bucks for helping. Or I’ll take them out for ice-cream on Saturday if they did awesome the whole week.

What works well in my family is the “Chore Chart”. Its nothing fancy, seriously. Its just a white board that I stuck on the wall. Every morning I write done what needs to be done that day.

Here is a link to an age appropriate chore chart. Full of great ideas

Plan your meals for the week

Meal planning is a life saver. I have no idea how I managed before. I really didn’t manage, it was just chaos day in and day out. Until I learned the art of meal planning.

Just to clarify: I meal PLAN, I don’t really meal PREP. I have not yet mastered how to meal PREP with family of 7.

Here’s how i do it:

  • Every Sunday(ish or so, sometimes Monday morning) i sit down with my planner
  • I decide what we are going to eat for supper every day Monday through Friday (Break fast is always cereal, toast or pop tarts and lunch is at school)
  • I make a grocery list and then go get groceries.
  • Sometimes I will prepare salads for lunches for the mister and I for a couple days

TaDA!! No more asking yourself “Ugh what do I make for supper”. I used to think meal planning was this big extravagant thing that fancy people did. No, it doesn’t have to be. You can plan to eat pizza or mac and cheese. You can plan to order out. Life is just easier when you have a plan.

If you’re new to meal planning, I highly recommend THIS article.

Get into a routine

I’m a big fan of routine and doing everything around the dame time everyday. I know it isn’t always possible to stick to an exact routine but I recommend trying to get into one. It is a super helpful life hack for busy moms.

Routines help you remember things. That’s why they are used in schools so much. If you do the same thing at the same time every day, you’ll end up doing it with out thinking about it.

It’s also nice to have an idea of what to expect, too. For example, we have Taco Tuesday and Pizza Sunday every week in our house. The whole family gets pumped for these days! And on Sunday we play a board game or charades after supper.

If you want to make your busy working mom life easier, I highly recommend sprinkling some routine into your life. Start small, think of a routine you already have. Like when you make your coffee in the morning, and add a little something to that.

Do your shopping online

For the most part, this pandemic sucks. But it has brought some good to the world. Like the contactless grocery pick up!! It has became one of my favorite life hacks for a busy lifestyle.

Shopping online has saved this busy working mom so much time, and money. For real!! Since I’m not actually in the store, I don’t grab the random unnecessary stuff.

I use amazon for a lot of stuff too. I have items like laundry pods and dryer sheets on a subscription. It took me a bit to get the timing right but now they come just before I run out. I never have to think about it.

Man! What a time to be alive!

Take time to rest and recharge

You are never too busy to take care of you. I don’t care how overwhelmed you are. You really just need to relax for a bit.

If you don’t, there’s a good chance you’ll experience total burn out. Then what? You’ll either end up sick or too tired to take care of anything.

Self care is so important. You can’t pour from an empty cup.

I cover more on self care in THIS article.

Set alarms and reminders on your phone

I really have a love hate relationship with technology. It offers so many great things like alarms, but it has also given us this need for instant gratification. But that’s a whole different story.

Use your technology to your advantage. Cell phones have been making the busy working mom life easier for a few years now. Put your appointments and engagements in the calendar on your phone . Set it up to give you a heads up a day or 10 minutes before.

Yes, I’m a big fan of my planner but i honestly don’t always have it readily available. But I almost always have my phone. Most of my appointments go in my phone first. When you’re a busy mom, the simplest of things can slip your mind. A little reminder can go a long ways

Be here now

This might not exactly be a life hack for busy moms, but I do find it helpful.

Don’t think about the future, it will only make you anxious. Don’t think about the past, there’s nothing you can do about it now.

Be here now. Do what you can, with what you have, where you are. A huge part of what makes are busy working mom lives hard is how much we worry. Its exhausting. I know I catch myself worrying all the time. If you’re worrying, you’re in the future. Be here now

Let me explain it to you in the best way I’ve ever heard it:

You have two hula hoops. You lay them on the ground next to each other. One represents the past, one reps the future. Like the picture below.

Now, you can spend you’re entire life with one foot in the past and one foot in the future. But you’re gonna get sick of standing like that. The best place to be is now. Trust me. It will make that busy working mom life so much easier.

I hope you are able to use some of these tips to make even just one day easier.

Leave me a comment below and tell me what are some of your life hacks for busy moms? I can’t wait to hear from you!

‘Til next time,

  1. Yes! I do ALL of these things. I can’t live without my planner, and 2020 has helped me discover “click list” at the grocery store. It saves time and money ordering online, and I love that someone puts the groceries right into my trunk. I have been slacking on meal planning, and I am really feeling it. Thanks for the reminder.

  2. I love these tips! I’m not a mom but life gets pretty hectic at times, so it’s great to read about hacks and tips for making everything a bit easier. I love writing things down when I feel overwhelmed. It’s great to just download everything onto paper and not worry that I’ll forget something. It also helps me spot things I don’t actually have to do. I don’t use my brain dump list as a to-do list. It’s just a master list of “all the things.” 🙂

    1. Thank you so much! Every ones life gets hectic or overwhelming at times. I’m so glad these tips are helpful to you.

  3. Great list! And so true! I’ve starting giving my kids little chores when they were little and now they know they have them. Makes life so much easier! And folding laundry isn’t so bad when they have to do their own!
