Every mom wants a clean home, right? Some days are easier than others to keep up with the chaos.
Below are five habits that i influence into our home to keep us on top of everything. These habits are good for any age, adults and kids alike!
Organize, then organize again
Let’s be honest with ourselves, it doesn’t always work to organize something just one time. Everything is changing all the time and the organizing has to change with it. What worked last month might not work this month. Chances are, you brought some stuff into the home, some stuff left the home. School just recently started or ended.
If you want to stay organized, you have to be willing to change it until you find something that works. Then it quits working and you have to change it again
Never leave the room empty handed
So you are having a movie night in the family room with all the kids. That’s so awesome! I bet you have snacks, popcorn, beverages, the works!
Then little Suzy needs to get up and “powder her nose”. You see, little Suzy learned from her awesome Super-mom, that if you take some trash or an empty glass with you now, its less work at the end of the night.
Moral of the story, never leave the room empty handed. And never walk through a room empty room. If you left a spoon on the table, walk it to the sink. The more you do it, the more your kids will do it
Put it away RIGHT AWAY!
When you get home for the day, don’t just kick your shoes off over there, throw your purse on the table, and hang you coat on the chair. DON’T DO IT!
Take the extra five minutes to put it away right away. Hang your purse on the hook. Put your shoes in the cubby and your coat in the closet.
“But Kimmy, I dont have a place for this.”
Give it a place. Dont have a hook for your purse? Put one up.
Don’t have a shoe rack/ cubby? Build one, buy one. Put EVERYTHING away, right away.
Don’t touch your mail more than once
I used to be terrible about my mail. I don’t like getting mail. It’s rarely anything fun or exciting. I would rather avoid it.
I’d go to the post officce to pick up our mail. then i’d throw it on my chatch all, our bedroom dresser. And well since the mail it there, i can throw this on top and this and that and this… STOP!! Didn’t i just get done talking about “Put it away, right away?” Yes, yes i did.
Face your mail demons right away
You probably wont like whats inside the envelopes but its better than those envelopes piling up and important notices going, well, unnoticed.
Get it done right now. Do you have a pile of mail some where? When you are done reading this, go through it.
Throw out what you don’t. Make a pile of stuff to handle. Then handle the sh*t out of that stuff. You will feel so much better when its all done. Pinky promise
